"One man's stand can buy a hundred men their lives"

Legacy of Heroes shirts honor real heroism by telling the true stories of Medal of Honor recipients. Each shirt features a QR code on the right shoulder with a banner reading “His Legacy.” When scanned, it takes you directly to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society page, where you can read the recipient’s official Medal of Honor citation and learn the story behind their legacy.

LEGACY OF HEROES | Capt. Benjamin L. Salomon

Some men meet destiny.

Others stand and shape it.

During the Battle of Saipan in 1944, Capt. Benjamin L. Salomon was a dentist serving as the lone surgeon in a crowded field hospital. Before sunrise, thousands of enemy troops broke through the American lines and crashed into the medical tents, a place meant for healing, not war.

Salomon was already wounded in the opening moments of the attack, cut by bayonets as he shielded his patients, stabbed while driving enemy soldiers out of the aid station, and shot in the struggle to keep the wounded behind him safe. Even with blood soaking through his uniform, he fought hand-to-hand to stop anyone who tried to reach the men who could no longer defend themselves.

When the order came to evacuate the patients, he made a choice few men ever face, he stayed behind.

He took up a machine gun at the doorway of the hospital, the last barrier between the enemy and the injured, and made his stand.

Wounded again and again, he kept firing. Alone, he held back a wave meant to drown everyone behind him.

Hours later, when the field was retaken, they found him still in position. Slumped over his gun, fallen where he fought, with 98 enemy soldiers lying dead around him.

Every wound he carried told the same truth:

He never gave an inch.

He never stepped back.

He bought the lives of others with the last full measure of his own.

Our Legacy of Heroes line begins with his story, because courage like his is not meant to fade.

It’s meant to be carried, remembered, and honored for generations.

Capt. Salomon stood alone so others could live.

This shirt carries that legacy forward.
